4th Test, Day 2 – Ajinkya Rahane puts hosts in control

New Delhi: Live updates from Day 2 of the final Test between India and South Africa being played at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. At stumps on Day 1, India were 231/7 with Rahane (89) and Ashwin (6) being the two unbeaten batsmen.

Surprisingly, none of the batsmen have managed to hit a century in the series so far and thus Rahane is just 11 runs away from becoming the first one to do so.

Rahane has silenced all those who began questioning his skills. He has performed well for India overseas and a ton at the Feroz Shah Kotla will show once again why he has been the most consistent batsman of this Indian squad in all formats of the game.

Ajinkya Rahane played a brilliant knock for Virat Kohli-led India on the opening day which put the hosts on the driver's seat. India at one stage, were wobbling at 139/6 from where, Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja stitched a 59-run stand for the seventh wicket.

Rahane was unbeaten on 89 runs at stumps and he looked all set to add another Test ton to his resume.

South Africa fought hard on the opening day where Dane Piedt and Kyle Abbot shared seven wickets between themselves. In absence of Dale Steyn, Abbott bowled his heart out for the Proteas and Indian batsmen looked vulnerable against him.

Meanwhile Piedt, who replaced Simon Harmer for the match, impressed everybody with his accurate line and length.

Hashim Amla would now want his bowlers to grab some early wickets on the second day.
